Because Arizona is home to three universities, liquor investigators see IDs from all over the country, both fake and real. In the second half of this session, you?ll learn how to detect fake IDs through a visual, interactive presentation prepared by an expert ID investigator.

Robbery/Home Invasion and Kidnapping Enforcement Unit


This class will discuss Phoenix as the kidnap capital of America, leading the nation in kidnapping/extortion incidents involving cross border violence. Phoenix PD has assigned a squad to lead Task Force efforts in the Phoenix Metro area regarding these investigations. The kidnapping crisis, a case biopsy, and their connection to Mexico will be discussed.

This session will equip officers with the knowledge they need to protect themselves and innocent victims from the dangers of clandestine laboratories and methamphetamine users encountered on the job and in their personal lives. The hazards of the different synthesis processes and the effects of meth use on the user and the dangers they pose to law enforcement officers will be discussed.

This session will give a detailed overview of the Arizona Consumer Fraud Act which is Arizona's main (civil) fraud statute. The session will include a discussion about each plank of the act and how it applies in the rest of the law enforcement world. The Arizona Consumer Fraud Act is a very complicated and powerful law that can bring civil charges of up to $10,000 per violation of it. The presentation will also include real Arizona case studies.

The class will cover current auto theft trends in Arizona. You?ll hear about VIN switches and cloned vehicle cases the Arizona Department of Public Safety has been investigating, and how to investigate a VIN switched or cloned vehicle. Learn about the resources available to investigate major auto theft rings involved in VIN switching and cloning vehicles. Border issues involving stolen vehicles being used to transport Undocumented Aliens (UDA) have become another major problem in Arizona. In this session, gain information on groups tied to organizations that are fraudulently purchasing new vehicles in Arizona and either taking them to Mexico or using the vehicles to smuggle UDA?s.

You will be provided with a comprehensive overview of the Arizona Employer Sanctions Law and the steps taken in conducting a well executed investigation. Learn the depth to which an Employer Sanction Investigation can be taken and the methodology in conducting the investigation. You will also gain understanding of the strong connection these investigations have to Illegal Immigration and other Identity Theft / Forgery related crimes.

An ideal session for anyone who works with school aged children, prevention programs or internet related crimes.

A class on contemporary leadership, teaching you how to best deal with the inevitable change that occurs in every organization. This lecture covers a few theories, dealing with individuals and teams. Additionally, the lecture peruses a number of the most current publications concerning change. The lecture concludes by challenging the student with an attitude of embracing change.

National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) Section


Have you ever wondered what types of criminal history databases are searched in a firearms background check? Have you ever wondered how you could submit information to preclude someone who is prohibited from purchasing a firearm? Have you ever wondered how your duties as a law enforcement officer could impact someone?s firearm background check in another state?

This breakout session will include an overview of how NICS began, how the NICS process works, an overview of the federal prohibitors, how each state interacts with the NICS, the databases searched by the NICS, the authorized uses of the NICS, and a statistical update of the background checks performed. In addition, special emphasis will be placed on the various types of criminal history records and other information necessary for NICS employees to make a final determination regarding firearms eligibility. This presentation serves as a wonderful refresher for those who are familiar with the NICS firearm background checks and an eye-opening experience for those who are not aware of the process.
